Dissertation - Daily Mail Bread Article

Daily Mail, Thursday, July 26, 2012, Page 56 - Written by Jan Moir

As I'm looking into the topic of: 'Illusion of choice' I came across an article which proves the idea of excessive choice, regarding bread. The article goes on about how there is now a how aisle dedicated to bread, with hundreds of different styles, types, and colours you can have.

"Once upon a time bread choices were simple...you either ate bread or starved"

"Choice reared its ugly head..."

"A new kind of bread hell was unleashed in the nation - and its getting worse"

"This week Tesco announced it is to join this dread bread trend revamping 900 of its instore bakeries and increasing the number of speciality breads its serves from ten to 30.Which is about 25 more than anyone needs?"

"Supermarkets are the worst culprits, bombarding UK shoppers with a dizzying selection of mindless and essentially flavourless breads, baps, bloomers, baguettes, broiches and savoury buns in an unfeasible array of flavours and shapes."

"Tesco is going to make their new look bread sections look like artisan bakeries, complete with wooden tables and chalk boards."

"Its as if we are embarrassed by our own breads."

"Shoppers will be able to see bakers at work, beavering away with dough and bread shelves....For the loaves are made in the factories elsewhere and delivered part baked, to be reheated on the premises by workers."

"This must be infuriating for proper bakers who make their bread from scratch."
